About shower installation

Shower installation covers fitting electric, mixer, digital or power showers, and the right one for your bathroom depends less on preference than on your incoming water pressure and the type of hot water system you have, which is the first thing we check before recommending anything. This is one of the most common jobs we're called out for across Romford and Havering, whether you're replacing a tired shower or fitting one where there wasn't one before.

An electric shower heats cold mains water on demand and doesn't depend on your hot water system at all, which makes it a reliable option where pressure or hot water supply is limited. A mixer shower blends hot and cold from your existing supply, so it needs decent pressure and flow to work well, and suits a combi boiler or an unvented cylinder. A digital shower is essentially a mixer with electronic temperature and flow control instead of a manual valve, often run from a separate control unit.

A power shower adds a pump to boost flow, but that pump only belongs on a gravity-fed system, where water is stored in a loft or airing cupboard cistern; combi boilers and unvented cylinders are already pressurised, so adding a pump to either is unnecessary and can cause problems rather than solve them.

On the day, we check your pressure and system type, run or adjust pipework to the new shower position, fit isolation valves so it can be serviced later, and test temperature, flow and drainage thoroughly before we leave.

They took their time and ensured that everything was correctly measured and hence, the end result is very pleasing to the eye. It is obvious that Dan is an excellent plumber. It transpired that the shower had not been fitted properly in the first place; Dan explained the problem, and sorted it. They are very friendly, competent and efficient. Shower Installation questions

Clear answers to your most common plumbing concerns.

My shower pressure is low, can you help?
Yes, we can install booster pumps to improve pressure for a better shower experience.
Can I fit a power shower on my combi boiler?
No, a pump isn't needed or suitable on a combi boiler, since it already delivers pressurised hot water on demand. Adding a pump to a combi or an unvented cylinder can cause problems rather than improve performance, so we'd recommend a suitable mixer or digital shower instead.
What's the difference between a digital shower and a normal mixer shower?
A digital shower controls temperature and flow electronically through a separate control unit, rather than you setting them manually at the valve. The plumbing behind it is broadly similar to a mixer shower, but it gives more precise, repeatable control at the shower head.
Why has my mixer shower gone from strong to weak over time?
This is often scale or debris building up in the valve or shower head rather than a drop in your water pressure. It can also point to a failing valve cartridge. We'd check the valve and pressure before deciding whether it needs cleaning, repairing or replacing.
Can you fit a shower in a room with no existing shower point?
Yes, this means running new pipework from the nearest suitable supply to the new position, which is more involved than replacing an existing shower but entirely achievable. We'll look at where the supply and waste can connect before confirming the job.
Do electric showers need their own circuit?
Yes, an electric shower needs a dedicated circuit sized for its load, which is notifiable electrical work. We coordinate with a qualified electrician to install and certify that circuit as part of the job while we handle the plumbing and fitting.
