Boiler with its casing off for fault-finding

Our work: Boiler with its casing off for fault-finding

About boiler repair

Boiler repair covers diagnosing and fixing faults on the boiler you already have: no heating or hot water, an error code on the display, strange noises, a leak, or a boiler that keeps losing pressure. If the boiler is otherwise sound, a repair gets it working again without the cost or disruption of a full replacement.

Common faults include a failed PCB (the boiler's control board), a stuck diverter valve causing hot water but no heating or vice versa, ignition faults, a failing pump or fan, and a faulty gas valve. Noises like kettling or banging usually point to limescale or sludge building up in the heat exchanger and system water, rather than a failed part.

Losing pressure repeatedly is one of the most common call-outs. Boiler pressure normally sits around 1 to 1.5 bar when the system is cold, and a boiler that keeps dropping below that usually has a leak somewhere in the sealed system, a failing pressure relief valve, or a worn expansion vessel. This is a different problem from low pressure or weak flow at your taps and showers, which is about the mains water supply rather than the sealed heating circuit, covered under water pressure problems.

If you smell gas at any point, leave the property, don't operate any switches, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. For anything short of that, we diagnose the fault on the visit, explain what's wrong in plain terms, and fix it where the parts and access allow, working across Romford and the wider Havering area.

Boiler Repair questions

Clear answers to your most common plumbing concerns.

Do you repair all brands?
Yes, we repair Worcester, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, and all major brands.
Why does my boiler keep losing pressure?
The most common causes are a small leak somewhere in the sealed heating system, a failing pressure relief valve, or a worn expansion vessel that's lost its air charge. Topping up the pressure yourself treats the symptom, not the cause, so if it keeps happening it needs a proper leak check.
What does an error code on my boiler mean?
Each manufacturer uses its own set of fault codes, so the same number means different things on a Worcester Bosch compared with a Vaillant or Baxi. We diagnose against the specific manufacturer's code list rather than guessing, which is why it's worth noting the exact code before you call.
Is it safe to keep using my boiler with an error code showing?
It depends on the fault. Some codes are minor and the boiler will keep running; others, particularly anything related to the flue or gas valve, mean the boiler has locked out for safety and shouldn't be forced to restart repeatedly. If you're unsure, turn it off and get it checked rather than resetting it repeatedly.
Why has my boiler stopped producing hot water but the heating still works?
This usually points to a diverter valve that's stuck in the heating position, or occasionally a faulty sensor telling the boiler hot water isn't being called for. It's a common and generally straightforward fault to diagnose and fix on a combi boiler.
My boiler pressure gauge reads normally but I have weak pressure at the taps, what's wrong?
That means the fault isn't with the boiler at all. Boiler pressure is about the sealed heating circuit; weak flow at taps and showers is a mains water supply issue, which is a separate problem covered under water pressure problems rather than a boiler fault.
